Turnip Truck Midtown

Turnip Truck owner John Dyke has announced that his new location in Midtown at mixed-use building The Broadview at Vanderbilt is now open.

With an address of 1920 Broadway, this is the locally owned natural and organics grocery business’s fourth location.

According to a release, Turnip Truck will operate from a 24,000-square-foot space in the South Tower component of the building.

The release notes Turnip Truck will employ about 70 individuals. Dyke says the new location pays homage to Midtown’s since-closed Sunshine Grocery, Nashville’s first natural foods store, which operated within the district in the 1970s.

The Broadview at Vanderbilt, which targets VU graduate students, is situated between Lyle and 20th avenues. A segment of the 10-story building faces Broadway and houses Turnip Truck. The building’s North Tower offers cafe 8th and Roast Coffee Co.

Terms of the lease are not being disclosed.

The store is larger than Turnip Truck’s 18,000-square-foot flagship East Nashville location. It features a deli, a juice bar, a salad bar, a hot bar and grab-and-go meal options. Turnip Truck offers 50 percent more food service at the new location than it does at its East Nashville, Gulch and Charlotte Avenue stores. The store also offers 80 dedicated parking spots.

The release does not include the Midtown Turnip Truck hours; however, the other three stores are open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

As Scene sister publication the Nashville Post previously reported, the Turnip Truck located nearby in the Gulch on 12th Avenue South will remain open.

“We are thrilled to bring Turnip Truck’s culture, dedication to customer service and fresh, natural goods to the Midtown community,” Dyke says in the release. “We are grateful to be a part of this dynamic neighborhood and are excited to be able to serve our neighbors high-quality, holistic options.”

Midtown is home to no other comprehensive grocery store, though DGX (located at the intersection of 21st Avenue North and West End Avenue) offers various grocery items and sundries. In April 2022, a Piggly Wiggly located nearby on West End Avenue near West End Park and Centennial Park ceased operations.
