For as long as I’ve been writing about food in Nashville, the organizers behind the annual Tennessee Local Food Summit have been carrying the torch for food security and changing our growing and distribution system to a more just process. They will gather again Dec. 5 though 7 at Trevecca Community Church at 335 Murfreesboro Pike to break bread, listen to workshops taught by local experts, swap seeds, tour farms, attend a vendor trade show and work together to create what they call “a resilient and equitable local food network” in our state and region.
With the recent assault on food aid, there could be no more important time to address these issues as a community, and this annual summit brings together gardeners and farmers, activists and educators, ranchers and purveyors who can affect change for the better. Keynote speakers for this year’s conference include the Rev. Jen Bailey, Ashley Brailsford and Bonnetta Adeeb.
The annual Phila Awards will again be part of the summit, and is a time for deserving nominees to be recognized for their service to the community. To be a part of the awards and the rest of the activities during the Tennessee Local Food Summit, register at the event website.
