This Saturday, Sept. 9, bring your sweet tooth and your cash to Tailgate Brewery in West Nashville for the third Sweet Relief bake sale. The first Sweet Relief bake sale brought together dozens of Nashville's amateur, semi-pro, and professional bakers to raise money for victims of Nashville's 2010 flood, yielding more than $1,000. In 2012, the group teamed up again to raise more than $1,500 for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Now it's time to get the group together again, to raise money for victims of the massive flooding from Hurricane Harvey. So this Saturday, Sept. 9, food bloggers and friends of food bloggers will once again offer their best treats so you can help yourself while helping others. A full list of available treats is not yet available, but past bake sales have included some astoundingly delicious desserts. Many of Nashville's food bloggers are successful cookbook authors and caterers and/or have had their baked goods featured in national media. My own offerings haven't achieved much renown outside of the state of Tennessee, but I do make a fantastic vegan chocolate cupcake and some delicious biscotti (at least, that's what I hear from my kid's teachers). I have also received word that there will be whoopie pies, scratch-made brownies, and even a few savory baked goods. Everything will be priced at $2, though some whole pies, cakes, or breads may be available at higher (but reasonable) prices.Â
The bake sale starts at noon and will go on until 4 p.m. or the baked goods sell out.
There's a lot going on this weekend, but be sure to carve out a few minutes to drop by to support a great cause. 100 percent of proceeds will be donated to the Houston Food Bank.Â
