Sprouts, the supermarket that focuses on fresh and organic foods with an emphasis on fruits and vegetables will hold a grand opening celebration this Wednesday, Aug. 2, starting at 7 a.m. at the new location in One Bellevue Place, the site of the former Bellevue Mall. Sprouts is the first retail establishment to open, scheduled just a few days after the opening of Chili’s as the first restaurant.
To mark the occasion, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as grand opening giveaways. Planned giveaways include:
- The first 200 shoppers in line will receive 20 percent off their initial total purchase.
- Muffin and coffee samples will be served to everyone in line before the doors open.
- Every 15th shopper will receive a coupon book featuring Sprouts savings at checkout.
- Every customer will receive one free reusable bag with purchase.
For those who can’t make it on Wednesday, grand opening offers continue over the weekend. On Saturday, Aug. 5, the first 200 customers to make a purchase will receive a coupon booklet for five free deli items. On Sunday, Aug. 6, every 15th customer at checkout will receive a coupon for $5 off a purchase of more than $15 to use on their next visit.
Sprouts currently operates a store in Franklin. I visited the store when it opened and was impressed by the produce selection (not just fresh, but expansive), bulk foods, bakery, and organic prepared foods all at prices that are lower than most grocery stores. There’s also a good selection of grab and go foods, personal care items such as cosmetics and shampoo, and craft beers.
In a press release, Sprouts also noted that “as part of Sprouts’ commitment to 'zero waste,' the new Nashville Sprouts will donate unsold and edible groceries to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee through the grocer’s Food Rescue program.” This is great news for the food bank. Nationwide last year, Sprouts stores and distribution centers donated more than 19 million pounds of product through the Food Rescue program, “which is equivalent to 15 million meals.” Food that is not fit for donation is provided to local farms and composting facilities. These initiatives “help minimize food waste while reducing the impact of hunger and the company’s environmental footprint.” No doubt Bellevue and West Nashville residents are ready to welcome the new store.
