Wholly Chow — the restaurant on Sidco Drive next door to Black Abbey Brewery — has closed. A sign on the door confirmed rumors from earlier this week that Sunday's brunch service was the restaurant's last. The restaurant opened in 2014, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch featuring Delta specialties such as beignets and gumbo as well as other Southern fare. Recently, though, hours changed, limiting service to lunch and weekend brunch.
Along with the change in service came controversy. A local nonprofit organization, Worker's Dignity/Dignidad Obrera organized protests of the restaurant amid accusations that owners refused to pay overtime wages in September and October. Recent reviews and comments from Bites readers also indicated that the restaurant's quality had declined over time.
A sign posted on the door states, "Wholly Chow is closed. Thank you for your patronage." The restaurant's website and Facebook page have been removed.
