Nicky’s Coal Fired Reprises 'Other People's Pizzas' Series

Enrico, the wood-fire oven at Nicky's

Nations favorite Nicky’s Coal Fired is bringing back its popular “Other People’s Pizza” series on the next four Tuesday nights. Chef Tony Galzin is opening up his kitchen to a roster of guest chefs to create their own masterpiece pies, which will be served in addition to the regular Nicky’s menu from 5 until 10 p.m.

The first two installments on Jan. 14 and 21 will have an Asian theme, as two guest chefs take their turn using Enrico — Nicky’s massive coal fired oven — to cook up some inventive pizzas. Former Treehouse Nashville and current Setsun pop-up chef Jason Zygmont will be there on the 14th, followed by Sarah Gavigan of Otaku Ramen and Bar Otaku on Jan. 21. (Long time Nashvillians might recall the Sushi Pizza at Ichiban downtown. This ain’t that.)

The next Tuesday, Jan 28, Carey Bringle of Peg Leg Porker will be gettin’ piggy with it. If you think this pitmaster doesn’t know his way around an indoor kitchen, you’re obviously forgetting that Bringle has cooked multiple times at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City. I’m certain he’ll come up with something excellent!

The winter series will wrap up on Feb. 4 with a visit from David Wingo, the man behind the excellent Seasoned Sunday outdoor dining events at Wedge Oak Farm. Wingo is also a noted beer expert, so you can expect some fine pairings with whatever pizza he comes up with. Reservations aren’t required, but they are suggested. And don’t forget you’ll be able to order from the rest of the menu, including Galzin’s excellent pies, in addition to the guest pizzas. Save me room at the chef’s bar so I can get a good view of the action in the kitchen!
