Months after releasing their first beers for sale on draft at restaurants and bars around town, the folks at New Heights Brewing Co. at 928 Fifth Ave. S. quietly opened their tasting room back in mid-November. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the holiday hours were intentionally erratic, as the staff ramped up during this soft-opening period. Above all, they didn’t want to take attention away from their brewing as they continue to expand their repertoire of recipes including getting ready for the new year’s big development of being able to brew beer at an ABV of 10.1%, up from 6.2%.
Especially if you’re a fan of IPAs, New Heights is the spot for you, with multiple options in rotation at any given time in the cozy taproom tucked over behind the old City Cemetery. It’s a bit of an effort to find New Heights, but well worth the search!
Jeff Fountain and Dustin DeWinter brew the beer and run the operations and sales side of the business, while DeWinter’s wife Katy (wo)mans the taproom. In addition to beer and games, New Heights also offers four varieties of an old favorite, Dan’s Gourmet Mac & Cheese for purchase to nosh on if you’re hungry. So if you’re looking for a place to hide out during or after the holidays, go give the taproom at New Heights a try.
Regular hours are listed below, but for this week they’ll be open from noon until 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and their normal 1 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 1.
