Nashville Episode of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown to Air Sunday

Nashville was all atwitter (and a-Instagram) in the spring when picaresque culinary bad boy Anthony Bourdain was spotted all over town filming segments for an episode of his CNN series Parts Unknown. Now Music City is finally ready for our close-up as the Nashville edition of the show premieres this Sunday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. Central time.

An official statement from the network confirms that Bourdain his some old favorites and some surprising destinations as well: “Bourdain absorbs the tastes, sights and sounds of music city, from chef Josh Habiger's Catbird Seat and Bolton's famous hot chicken, to a night of cooking, drinking and rocking out with singer Alison Mosshart, and her bandmates. The episode features performances by The Kills, Dead Weather and Margo Price.”

Someone should probably let them know that Habiger hasn’t really been the chef at Catbird in years, but we’re still proud he got a mention. I would hope that City House made the cut for broadcast, and I’d bet Dandgure’s and Dino’s get some airtime too. Bourdain and Sean Brock tend to have great fun together both on this show, and back when Mind of a Chef (from the same production company as Parts Unknown) focused to Brock for half of a season — so I’d expect to see some sort of local version of their famous Waffle House escapades.

You can check out a quick clip of Dead Weather from the episode here.

In other Bourdain/Nashville news, he recently hosted an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Reddit, and my fellow member of the Fraternal Order of Hot Chicken, Rob Thompson, shared his favorite question-and-answer exchange:

Has anything ever happened while filming any of your shows that scared the crap out of you?

Yes! Where do I begin? Every day in the DRC — the Democratic Not-So-Democratic Republic of the Congo — there were many tense moments. Libya, post-Benghazi, was again, many concerning moments where we sort of had to take regular meetings among the crew and decide for ourselves whether we would make a run for the airport or continue shooting. Beirut, 2006, got a little dodgy. And immediately after eating Nashville Hot Chicken, that was truly, truly terrifying. And if you're considering going to Nashville, by the way, please notice that Nashvillians themselves don't eat the extra-hot fried chicken. They know better. Unless you've got three or four days to spend in a bathroom, I really advise against that.

More proof that Bourdain is a wise man.
