Nashville Bars and Restaurants Plan a Multitude of Fundraisers

Y’all sure do like to eat and drink for a good cause, at least that’s what a handful of local restaurants and bars are depending on as they plan all sorts of events and programs to pair dining and drinking with philanthropy. If you’ve got a hankering to help out some folks in need while enjoying a fine meal or beverage, have we got some options for you!

At City Winery, they are looking to lift up the citizens of the Bahamas devastated by Hurricane Dorian by raising money for SOL Relief, an organization that flies supplies between the mainland and the islands, taking advantage of their aircrafts’ capabilities to use shorter landing strips to reach more affected residents faster. Until Oct. 16, the folks at City Winery are donating a dollar of every glass of their wines to SOL Relief, so sip on a fine 615 sauvignon blanc and flip a buck to some folks who can really make a donation go a long way.

Closer to home, the Tennessee Immigrant And Refugee Rights Coalition has planned a dinner this Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Café at Thistle Farms to help support their efforts on behalf of the local immigrant community. (And by the way, “local Immigrant” is not an oxymoron!) The evening will begin at 6 with a reception followed by a dinner prepared by the talented team of chefs from the Café at Thistle Farms; Hattie Jane's Creamery culinary director, Lokelani Alabanza; founder of Que Delicias Catering, Elvira Vasquez; and nationally renowned chef and award-winning cookbook author Louisa Shafia.

Thought-provoking entertainment will be provided by critically acclaimed vocalist, songwriter, and food blogger Ruby Amanfu, and poet and cookbook author Caroline Randall Williams. Your $100 ticket to the Feeding Our Movement dinner includes drinks, gratuity and the five-course meal, so pick yours up at the event website.

Four-legged friends deserve some attention as well, so in honor of National Dog Week, the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel is presenting their biggest Paws on the Patio event yet on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 6 p.m., in which they’ll donate the proceeds to the Nashville Humane Association.

The $28 tickets are available at the Nashville Humane Society website and include four tickets plus some small bites from the Loews’ Mason Bar. Guests can cash in their tickets for beverages or to participate in one of the many on-site events including:

·       A Doggy Dig where pups can dive in for prizes

·        An Obstacle Course

·        Caricature Artist

·        Kissing Booth and more

·        Free homemade dog treats made with Yazoo spent grain.

If attendees want to participate in more than two activities, additional tickets will be available for purchase on-site or on the website in $5 increments. There will also be a silent auction to raise additional funds, with great prizes like a weekend stay at Loews New Orleans Hotel and tickets to a New Orleans Saints game. There will also be a football watching station so you won’t have to miss a minute of the games.

Red Pebbles Hospitality, the team behind The 404 Kitchen, Adele’s, Woolworth on 5th, Bajo Sexto and Emmy Squared has chosen the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center as the beneficiary of their beneficence in honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last year, the restaurant group donated $10,000 during the month, and Red Pebbles is anticipating even more success in the second year of the annual fundraiser.  In their announcement of this year’s program, they note that “1 in 8 women in the United States will be affected by breast cancer, and multiple staff members and partner Howard Greenstone watched their mothers and other family members battle breast cancer. This fundraiser is personal and important to the Red Pebbles’ team. Each restaurant will offer an exclusive menu of seasonal dishes in which a portion of the proceeds will be included in the donation.”

Check out the special menus so that you can be sure your dining dollar is going to a good cause, and order a bottle or a glass of Westmont Wines Rosé to go with your meal, since they’ll be donating a portion of those proceeds as well.
