It feels like everybody wants a piece of Nashville lately, with out-of-town restaurants and bars coming to the city for collabs or to set down their own roots. The next home-and-home collaboration will be a bar stop between Nashville’s Old Glory and San Diego’s Gilly’s House of Cocktails. On Feb. 16, Old Glory proprietor Alexis Soler will take her staff to Cali and demonstrate their brand of hospitality over hype to the lucky San Diegans who drop by.
Gilly’s bar team will return the favor with a visit to Old Glory on Tuesday, April 7, when award-winning bartender Erick Castro will bring his brand of craft cocktails to Edgehill Village. That will be an opportunity to experience one of the country’s best bars without having to pay for a Southwest ticket, so mark it on your calendar!
On the beer side of the bar, it’s been a tumultuous time for local breweries — a spate of mergers and closings has significantly contracted the craft beer options in town. Through it all, TailGate Brewery has continued to expand its beer and pizza empire into neighborhoods around town and as far away as Chattanooga. Employing more than 250 team members, TailGate has also managed to offer 100 percent paid health care, a perk almost unheard of in hospitality.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, Tailgate will celebrate 11 years of beers with a party at their Bellevue HQ location at 7300 Charlotte Pike. They’ll be featuring more than 10 varieties of their popular Lager Projekt line of beers, along with other selections from the 300 different beers they produce each year. They’ll also offer non-beer craft beverages like TailGate Cider, THC seltzers, Coolship Cold Brew, a full coffee menu and more.
No RSVP or admission is required. Just show up ready to have a good time and congratulate these folks on 11 years!
For another type of buzz, make plans to drop by 915 Buchanan St. from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. for a pop-up cafe featuring 8Ball Brand Coffee, the Memphis-based brand created by rapper 8Ball and master roaster CXFFEEBLACK. 8Ball will be at the event to greet fans and sign coffee bundles while attendees participate in a curated tasting of his coffee drinks. Slim & Husky’s will offer their popular breakfast pizzas, and DJ C Wiz will provide the vibe. NKA Gallery is the host of the event and will offer the chance to view some Black-created arts while you enjoy your coffee and pizza.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, Nashville’s PBS station will play host to the fourth annual Tennessee Crossroads Whiskey Tasting at 161 Rains Ave. More than 300 guests will mix and mingle while tasting their way through a selection of pours from some of your favorite Tennessee whiskey and Kentucky bourbon distilleries.
