McCabe Pub

The family owners of McCabe Pub have announced that, after 41 years of operation in Sylvan Park, they will be closing their iconic restaurant and lounge sometime in January.

Through the years, the respected restaurant has earned much acclaim — including from the readers of the Scene, who have awarded the pub titles ranging from "Best Neighborhood Bar" to "Best Burger" and "Best Dessert" in our annual Best of Nashville issue. The pub has also received the local honorific of occasionally having a superfluous apostrophe and S added to its name — McCabe’s, like Kroger’s, Nordstrom’s and JC Penney’s.

Operated and owned by members of the Dean family since 1982, McCabe Pub has been a gateway to Sylvan Park for decades. Jo Dean — the restaurant's original co-owner, along with her husband John, who passed away in 2012 — is proud of what the family has accomplished.

She shared the following in an announcement about the closing:

“We are closing still believing in McCabe Pub and what we built over the decades. For more than 40 years, we’ve welcomed multiple generations of customers through our doors offering great food, a fun environment and a tight-knit community. We couldn’t be more thankful for the time and memories made on the corner of Murphy Road and 45th Avenue North.”

Sisters and co-owners Katie Dean Egbert and Stefanie Dean Brown added:

“It has been an honor to work alongside family, managing the business together for the last 22 years. Our parents started a legacy of incredible service, made-from-scratch recipes, ice cold beer, and an atmosphere that feels like home. We are proud to be referred to as the ‘Cheers’ of Nashville and hope our beloved spot will always be remembered. But as we move on, we are confident we are leaving our customer base in good hands.”

Although McCabe will be closing at a yet-to-be-announced date in January, the owners hope another restaurant will move into the space. For all real estate inquiries, interested parties should contact Lisa Maki, principal at Avison Young, at lisa.maki@avisonyoung.com.

In cheerier restaurant news, despite some protestations to the contrary, East Nashville has apparently not reached maximum taco yet. Pie Town Tacos recently  announced that it will be opening a second location in the building formerly operated by Burger & Co. at 1106 Woodland St. near Five Points. This outpost will join the original Pie Town location at 614 Ewing Ave. and should open sometime next month.

Add in the imminent opening of another Ladybird Taco outpost in Inglewood at 2300 Riverside Drive (due to open early next year), and East Nashville has a lot to taco ’bout in 2024.
