I’ll say it to anyone who will listen: Nashville gaining pastry chef extraordinaire Lisa Marie White from New Orleans was the city’s best pickup since the Preds stole Filip Forsberg from the Caps for a worn-out Marty Erat in a monumentally one-sided trade. As part of the NOLA-based QED Hospitality group that runs the culinary side of the Thompson Hotel in the Gulch, White came to town to help open the three restaurants at the property and liked Nashville so much, she decided to stick around.
So with Mardi Gras season upon us, it’s obvious that the Thompson should be your first stop when you’re seeking some Big Easy fare and flair for your holiday needs. The entire culinary team at the hotel's three restaurants, L.A. Jackson, Marsh House and Killebrew, have come up with some fantastic specials to help give you a taste of the carnival season.
L.A. Jackson, the indoor-outdoor rooftop bar and restaurant located on the top floor, will host a Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday, March 2, beginning at 1 p.m. Lead bartender Sally Gatza has created a special, one-day-only NOLA-based cocktail menu featuring drinks like Sazeracs, Ramos gin fizzes, hurricanes, zombies, frozen daiquiris and more that will make you feel like you’re strolling through the Vieux Carré. Special New Orleans-inspired dishes, including a Shrimp Po’boy and Boudin Balls will be offered, in addition to the regular menu. Authentic New Orleans entertainment will be provided throughout the day by Half Brass Band, and the party will continue into the night with performances from DJ Basketball Jones and DJ Warfield.
At Killebrew, Chef White is offering Mardi Gras specials including King Cake by the slice ($5.50), Mardi Gras doughnuts ($3.50) and King Cake lattes ($5.56). All these specials will be available at Killebrew coffee shop in the lobby of the Thompson Nashville until March 4. White is also offering full-size King Cakes for $35 each, available for preorder until March 4. Orders can be placed by calling 615-610-5543 for pickup or to enjoy at Marsh House. Remember, if you get the baby in the King Cake, you have to buy next year's cake. (And please drop it by up the street at the Scene’s offices!)
