The Hillsboro Village-area building last home to breakfast and lunch restaurant J. Christopher’s is slated for an Indian cuisine outpost to open by early 2024.
Akki Grover, the co-owner of Indian restaurant Sindoore in Donelson, will operate Jashan from the brick structure located a few blocks south of the commercial center of the Village. The address is 2100 21st Ave. S.

Grover tells Scene sister publication the Nashville Post he hopes to be open by the end of January at the latest, and could be operational by Christmas. He said he expects to have about 20 to 25 employees.
Grover has not decided yet if Jashan will offer a conventional all-you-can-eat lunch buffet with a cafeteria-like self-serve arrangement. However, he is considering a “plated buffet” option, for which servers will bring each patron one large plate of various Northern Indian cuisine items.
Sindoore, which offers the plated buffet model, opened in 2017 and was named by Yelp in 2021 among the nation’s top restaurants.
A permit notes Nashville architectural company Jenner Design is participating in update of the 21st Avenue building. Via an LLC, interior designer Shirley Horowitz and dermatologist Dr. David Horowitz own the property. Terms of the lease are not being disclosed.
A Georgia-based chain, J. Christopher’s closed seemingly in 2022. Prior to its operations, the building accommodated Tayst, a restaurant concept created by local chef and restaurateur Jeremy Barlow. Tayst closed in 2012 (read here), with Barlow now focused on Fryce Cream, a gourmet soft-serve and french fry eatery located in 12South.
The last Indian cuisine restaurant to operate in Hillsboro Village seemingly closed in the mid-2000s at The Village at Vanderbilt commercial building on 21st Avenue South.
Online news source What Now Nashville was the first to report about Jashan, the original name for which was to have been Junoon Ti.
