The owners of popular cafe Frothy Monkey have chosen East Nashville for their sixth location.
For the past five years, the Lockeland Springs building at 1701 Fatherland St. has been home to neighborhood coffee shop The Post East. This morning, the Post's owners announced via Facebook that the cafe will close on Nov. 17. "We are excited to announce that we will be passing the torch on to the Frothy Monkey family, a locally owned and operated business that has been serving the Nashville community for many years," reads the announcement. "We believe they will be a wonderful addition to our neighborhood."
In a release, Frothy Monkey co-owner Ryan Pruitt says his team will soon announce an official opening date. The business will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner with coffee and a full bar. At one time, Frothy had its baking operations based on the East Side. The baking is now done in South Nashville, while roasting is undertaken at the INK Building in SoBro.
“We have been patiently waiting for the right East Nashville opportunity to open a Frothy Monkey since we outgrew our bakery on Fatherland Street in 2018,” says Pruitt, who co-owns the business with Jennifer Sheets and some other partners. “We are excited to be a part of the East Nashville again.”
Wife and husband Tonya Lewis and Chris Cowley opened The Post East in 2014. Cowley owns the property from which the café operates and will be Frothy’s landlord.
The most recently opened Frothy Monkey (2017) opened in The Nations and in Chattanooga. The first Frothy opened in 12South in 2004. The café also has a presence in Franklin, downtown (Fifth Avenue).
