Emmy Squared has certainly been on a (pizza) roll of late. Even in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, the Brooklyn-based pizzeria has managed to expand both its footprint and reach over the past year, adding new locations in the Glenwood Park neighborhood of Atlanta and with plans to expand into Charlotte this summer. These locations join two Emmy Squared restaurants each in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Nashville — along with others in Alexandria, Va., Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Louisville. The chain has also expanded to national distribution through a very successful partnership with Goldbelly shipping its Detroit-style pizzas all over the country, taking advantage of the large kitchen at its Green Hills location to prepare pies for the masses.
Emmy Squared's latest announcement nudges Nashville to the lead in their quest toward world pizza domination: The chain will open a third location in Germantown the week of May 10. The latest Emmy Squared will be at 1121 Fifth Ave. N., in the former home of Silo. The restaurant will feature a dozen bar seats, indoor seating for about 65 patrons and a large outdoor patio, which offers one of the best views of the bustling Germantown neighborhood, as well as a private dining room.
Emily Hyland, co-founder and partner of Emmy Squared, is quite appreciative of the warm welcome that Nashville has shown the pizzeria. "The Nashville community has opened its arms to us and continues to love all things Detroit-style pizza,” she says. “We've received so much support at our locations in the Gulch and Green Hills, so we're excited to open in Germantown and serve such an active and vibrant area."
Just a decade ago, Nashville was very much of a pizza desert. Just look at the winners in the “Best Pizza” categories of several readers' choice awards in local media outlets, and you’ll find way too many national chains represented back then. Now we're blessed with innovative pizzerias that prepare all sorts of different styles of pies, and Emmy Squared’s lovely crispy cheese-edged pizzas are definitely part of this renaissance. With its latest expansion into Germantown, the chain is carrying its frico gospel to a brand-new audience, and we’re luckier for it!
