Celebrate the Imperfect and Impermanent Dinner With Juniper Green

It’s been a pretty wacky year for everybody. Event designer Jessica Sloane and chef Molly Martin, owner of culinary company Juniper Green, have decided to come together with a new event and celebrate beauty despite everything that’s been broken with an experiential dinner on Sunday, Nov. 15, they’re calling an Asymmetry Dinner.

The five-course meal at Juniper Green’s private dining space on the ground floor of the Fairlane Hotel will kick off with a tea presentation from Tea Huntress Sarah Scarborough that will allow guests to transition into an intentional mindset for the dinner, then chef Martin will present each dish with an explanation of her inspiration.

“Enduring and accepting life during a pandemic has been a struggle for all of us. For me, it allowed me to clear my head and really think about people who have inspired me along the way, and Jessica was one of the first ones to come to mind,” says Martin. “When we spoke about beauty that has come from the pain, the idea of Asymmetry came to mind and we knew we had to make it happen.”

Martin’s menu will include courses named “fallen leaves,” “roots,” “mushroom garden,” “nest” and “spice,” and will include Asian-inspired dishes, locally sourced proteins and vegetables, and some fun little surprises. Sloane’s design concept will be inspired by her own life, this collective time of suffering and her intention to embrace what is.

“The beauty in the imperfection and impermanence in nature is what resonates with me the most. On my own journey, I'm learning that what appears to be out of balance or less than, is in perfect harmony,” she says.

The dinner offers two seatings at either 6 or 8:30 p.m., with each limited to 25 patrons per seating. Tickets will be sold by private tables of four or six guests per table, with proper social distancing between each. Masks are required until dining begins, temperatures will be checked at the door, and guest information will be collected for safety. Tickets are $95 per person and are available at the event’s website.
