Cafe Babu's veranda

Cafe Babu

Two excellent additions to the Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood and the adjacent Chestnut Hill area are coming together on Feb. 28 to kindle a little late-winter wonder.

My fellow Scene contributor Margaret Littman gave Cafe Babu our writers' choice for Best Patio in our most recent Best of Nashville issue, and the buzz continues to grow about Shivani and Alexandros Darsinos’ coffee shop and bar at 1044 Third Ave. S. It's on a block you might have used in an attempt to escape being stuck on the wrong side of the train tracks in Wedgewood-Houston. (Left on McCann. Left on Fourth. Right on Oak. Then you’ll find yourself magically on the other side of the tracks from the stopped train. That’s some real local knowledge right there.)

From 6 until 10 p.m. on the last night of the shortest month, Cafe Babu is going to try to stretch out the most fun part of winter sports: the drinking that takes place when you're done with them. They’re teaming up with Crush Bottle Shop — Seema Prasad and Brian Hadfield’s delightful beverage store in Wedgewood-Houston — to create a special Après Ski event.

Expect lodgy vibes with Alpine-inspired cocktails and small bites, along with two DJs pumping up the volume to keep the proceedings from sliding into the hygge chill zone. It’s free to attend, and you can have all the fun of relaxing after a day of skiing without paying $200 for a lift ticket and with far less chance of breaking a bone!
