Bongo Java News: Free Swag as Fido Turns 20, Teddy-Bear Hospital, BOX Bakery Update

There’s a hot coffee mug full of Bongo Java news to share, including a free swag giveaway at Fido today, the return of the teddy-bear hospital at Fido this Saturday, and an update on BOX, the upcoming 10th Avenue cafe and relocated site of the Bongo Java bakery.

Today is the 20th anniversary of the opening of Fido, the Hillsboro Village cafe and coffeehouse that is one of the anchors of Bob Bernstein’s Bongo Java coffee empire. (Bongo Java on Belmont, Bernstein’s original coffeehouse, turned 23 this year.)

The folks at Fido, which won Best Breakfast in the Scene's Best of Nashville 2016 Readers' Poll, are celebrating their 20th in a couple of ways. Today they're giving away free mugs and patches (pictured) while supplies last, so head on over to 1812 21st Ave. S. if you want one.

As another part of the celebration, Fido is bringing back its popular Stuffed Animal Hospital from 2 to 5 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 15. Kids of all ages can bring in their teddy bears and other stuffed-animal buddies that need mending; volunteers will offer care including “check-ups, minor surgery and some physical therapy.” The medical care is free, but donations are welcome — all proceeds will go to the Nashville Humane Association.

Finally, I checked in with Bernstein for an update on BOX. The cafe, which will also house the Bongo Java bakery operations (formerly located at Fido) is going into the Waverly on 10th mixed-use development — at 2233 10th Ave. S., near the new Waverly-Belmont Elementary School. Bernstein says the new spot is on track to open sometime in November. We'll share more details as we get them.
