On his personal Facebook page, Barista Parlor owner Andy Mumma recently dropped a year-end bombshell: The latest outpost of his expanding chain of beloved coffee houses will be in partnership with the impending W Nashville Hotel currently rising out of the ground at the corner of 12th Avenue South and Pine at 300 12th Ave. S. If that address sounds familiar, that's because it’s right next-door to Nashville Scene HQ.
A popular pastime in our offices has been watching the progress of the luxury hotel (as well as replacing things shaken off of cubicle shelves after the frequent construction blasting). Mumma’s newest venture, BP x W Nashville, will be a featured space on the ground level of the W. Mumma describes it as “a modern glass jewel box with our own private tropical garden patio.”
W Nashville has previously announced some of the dining options that will be a part of their new property — two restaurants by Andrew Carmellini of NoHo Hospitality Group. One of them will be named The Dutch Nashville, and the other will be an Italian chophouse. Carmellini’s original version of The Dutch in New York City is described on the restaurant website as “an American Restaurant, Bar and Oyster Room inspired by local cafes, country inns, corner taverns, neighborhood bistros, seaside shacks, roadside joints, old school dining halls and the same mix of cultural influences that make big cities great.”
Of importance to Scene staffers, the new Barista outpost will be a minute walk from our front door. It should also be pretty easy for Mumma to manage, since according to Google Maps, it will be only 0.3 miles and a six-minute walk away from his Barista Parlor Golden Sound location a little deeper in the Gulch. We promise that the extra 10 minutes we will save on the round trip for Barista coffee will be invested into producing more of the hard-hitting journalism you have come to expect from us. (Or maybe, we’ll just use that time to go back for another cup in the afternoon …)
