While we were excited to hear that popular local chef Edgar Pendley had finally opened his combination brewery/pizza parlor TennFold at the end of last month, we also had to admire the stones on a man who threw open the doors of a new business in the middle of a pandemic — a pandemic that has limited his business to delivery and carryout. But initial response to the new venture has been solid, and Pendley already wants to find a way to give back to the community.
Starting this week, TennFold will offer 50 free pizzas every Tuesday through Thursday night for hospitality workers on a first-come, first-served basis (and a limit of one per person per night). The deal is for an 18-inch cheese pizza for carryout between 4 and 8 p.m., and all hospitality workers have to do is go to TennFold’s online ordering page and select the “Hospitality Free Pizza.” The order form will ask them to fill in where they work and choose a pickup time, and that’s it, no more questions asked. Pendley is self-effacing about this generous offer, telling me, “It may not be much but f*ck it, at least it’s a meal or two that someone doesn't have to worry about paying for!”
I don’t consider it to be a little thing. A small business choosing to open in these unbelievably difficult times, and then also reaching into its own pocket to feed fellow industry workers, is an incredibly generous gesture. If you’re a member of the hospitality industry, it must be nice to know that someone is looking out for you. If you’re not, consider TennFold for your carryout options as a way to say thanks for their largesse. I haven’t made it out there to 2408 Lebanon Pike in Donelson yet to try it, but the innovative pizza options like Duck & Bacon, Roasted Chicken With English Peas and Salami Picante have got me intrigued. I’ll visit soon!
