Songwriter Session: Shane McAnally

Shane McAnally has written chart-topping songs for Kenny Chesney (“Somewhere with You,” “Come Over”), Sam Hunt (“Body Like a Backroad,” “Hard To Forget,” “Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time”), Jake Owen (“Alone with You”), and Old Dominion (“Make It Sweet,” “Written In the Sand”). He also wrote “Downtown” (Lady A), “Drinkin’ Problem” (Midland), “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” (Keith Urban), “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye” (Luke Bryan), “Mama’s Broken Heart” (Miranda Lambert), “One Night Standards” (Ashley McBryde), “T-shirt” (Thomas Rhett), and many other hits. McAnally won Grammy awards for Best Country Song for Kacey Musgraves’s “Merry Go ’Round” and “Space Cowboy” and earned the CMA Song of the Year for Musgraves’s “Follow Your Arrow.”

In 2016, McAnally was featured in the museum series Poets and Prophets: Salute to Legendary Songwriters. Since 2019, he has starred as one of the mentors on NBC’s songwriting reality series Songland. Presented by SunTrust. Instagram Live @officialcmhof.
