The last time beloved weirdo and Gen-X late-night icon Conan O’Brien launched a comedy tour, it was back in 2010. The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour came in the wake of O’Brien’s controversial ouster from The Tonight Show, when he was — you guessed it — contractually prohibited from appearing on TV for seven months. (Quick side note: Remember when there were pro-Conan demonstrations, picketing and all? Boy. We had far fewer pressing matters to protest back in 2010.) O’Brien is hitting the road once again this fall, but this time the circumstances are a little less dire. The gregarious ginger’s TBS show Conan is off the air until January, when it will return as a reformatted half-hour program, and O’Brien is filling his downtime with an 18-city tour. Conan and Friends: An Evening of Stand-Up and Investment Tips will hit War Memorial Auditorium this week, where the Cone Man will be joined by comics Ron Funches, Taylor Tomlinson, James Veitch and Flula Borg. Reviews from early stops on the tour promise a night of free-form riffing, some too-hot-for-TV takes, and maybe even an audience Q&A. D. PATRICK RODGERS
