A few years ago, my primary care physician left their practice, and I was floating in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center system without a tether. Luckily, someone recommended Dr. Melissa Hixson, and now I’m never leaving. The most refreshing thing about Dr. Hixson is that she’s in no hurry. The time she spends with each patient is leagues beyond what I’m used to — she listens intently, referring out when appropriate, and shares stories about her own relatable life. A primary care physician is a personal choice, and patients want different things from them. But in Vanderbilt’s rating system, Dr. Hixson has 539 five-star reviews. I’d say that’s an abnormal amount of stars.
