The pandemic got lots of folks to pick up trowels and get their hands dirty, and we have a fantastic local resource in our library for all things gardening. The Nashville Public Library Seed Exchange provides a variety of free seeds to anyone who has a library card. I’ve found heirloom tomato varieties, peppers for every heat tolerance, gourds I’d never heard of and hundreds of other veggies. It’s also your place for flowers — cosmos, coneflowers, zinnias and sunflowers are always abundant. But you need some knowledge to successfully grow stuff too, and the library offers free workshops year-round that teach you everything from composting to preparing a garden bed to saving seeds after harvest. You can also find great tips on the Seed Exchange blog to help you unlock your garden dreams.
