It was not a great year for the Nashville Predators. Head coach Peter Laviolette was fired in January, and for the first time in six seasons, the team didn’t qualify for the playoffs. But one player still managed to shine — captain Roman Josi racked up a whopping 49 assists and 16 goals, both career highs, and he led the team in power-play points with 23. The Professional Hockey Writers’ Association noticed his stellar efforts too — they gave Josi the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the league’s best defenseman every year.
