Author Event With Sean L. Maloney, Author of <i>33 1/3: The Modern Lovers'</i> The Modern Lovers

Hey, Nashville kids! Have you ever heard of The Modern Lovers? The Modern Lovers were a band. A very unusual and wonderful band. And they only made one record — The Modern Lovers. And it’s one of the best records ever. And it wasn’t exactly a record. And they weren’t exactly a band. Oh, and, uh, they also kind of accidentally invented punk rock. It’s a great story — and an even greater record — and if you don’t know this stuff then you aren’t living as well as you could be. Longtime Nashville Scene contributor Sean L. Maloney (full disclosure: my friend) has written a book about The Modern Lovers for 33 1/3 — the super cool series of paperbacks about records that has covered everything from Dusty in Memphis to the Twin Peaks soundtrack. Sean is from Boston. Jonathan Richman, the creative genius behind The Modern Lovers, is from Boston. Sean beat out 600 other music geeks to get this gig. Go find out about Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers from a real Boston person at Maloney’s The Modern Lovers book party at Grimey’s Too’s Howlin’ Books. Sean says the event will be fun and family-friendly, and will likely involve a reading, a Q&A and lots of yelling “Radio On!” (“Radio On” is a Modern Lovers lyric, in case you aren’t living as well as you could be.)
