Veteran Nashville Actor David Compton Dies

David Compton

David Compton, one of Nashville's finest actors of the modern era, died Wednesday. The news was announced this morning on the Nashville Children's Theatre Facebook page.

"Yesterday," the NCT post reads, "we lost a dear friend and familiar face on our stage for 30 years. A brilliant actor and a loving friend, David Compton will be dearly missed both on our stage and off, but he will forever remain in our dragon hearts."

Compton suffered a heart attack in late 2013 and rebounded strongly to return to the stage. Subsequently, Compton was diagnosed with cancer in 2014, and battled it with surgery. About six months ago, Compton learned that the cancer had returned. Additional surgery removed a tumor from his brain, but Compton's road to wellness was further complicated by pneumonia and other infections. Several months back, Compton's then-fiancee, actress Amanda Card Compton, had reported that Compton was undergoing speech, physical and occupational therapies as well as beginning new cancer treatments.

This is the Nashville theater community's second serious loss this year, with the Feb. 24 passing of longtime Nashville Children's Theatre producer Scot Copeland.

A public memorial for David Compton will be held Saturday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. at Nashville Children's Theatre, 25 Middleton St., according to information on Amanda Card Compton's Facebook page.
