Scott Holt recognizes the blues are a broad platform for jumping off in any number of directions. He’ll break off grimy Chicago-style electric squalls, settle into a jazzy commercial groove like early Robert Cray, throttle it back into a gently strummed ballad, or shuffle in a little late-night R&B vibe. At 20 he met Buddy Guy, and received an impromptu backstage lesson; three years later Guy invited Holt to join him on the road as his sideman. Holt spent the next decade alongside the blues legend on stage and in the studio receiving an unparalleled education. When not on the road, Holt was home in Nashville, sharpening his own material and playing out with his band. With the release of his second solo disc, 2000’s Dark of the Night, Holt set out on his own, and has released four discs since, the latest of which pays tribute to his musical mentor.
