The Olde Worlde Theatre Company’s family-friendly productions typically take on old classics like The Wizard of Oz and The Three Little Pigs. Its latest show (set in 1597) introduces some characters we’re not familiar with: “Mamma Leone, an overworked, good-hearted sorceress in need of an apprentice” and “lazy town dreamer, Linguini,” who form a business partnership “tend[ing] to the comical ailments of the townspeople.” It’s not clear how the kettle fits in. But for families with kids, it should be fun to find out. Olde Worlde’s productions keep the very young entertained with audience participation, improvisation, strobe lights and songs, while including enough campy humor to amuse adults as well. Whatever magical properties said kettle possesses should offer a welcome alternative to the glossy special effects in Harry Potter, and at $6 a ticket, the show is actually cheaper than a trip to the movies.
