Today, Norf Artist Collective unveiled "Perseverance," a 1,000-square-foot mural in North Nashville that features depictions of civil rights luminaries Diane Nash, Curlie McGruder, Z. Alexander Looby and John Lewis. The piece was dedicated to the family of the late Rev. Bill Barnes in a ceremony led by Megan Barry. It's worth noting that the mural, which is on the side of an affordable housing complex on Clarksville and 26th Avenue North, was funded by Google Fiber. It's also worth noting that the mural is rad. It features a quote from McGruder written in a calligraphic style, "Freedom is not a destination, it's a journey," with the text "free nation journey" highlighted.Â
Watch a video of the mural's creation below. We named Norf the Best Collaborative in this year's Best of Nashville issue — it's easy to see why.
