Longtime Nashville Camera Store Dury's Is Closing

Dury’s — a local retail icon that that has sold cameras and related equipment in Nashville since 1882 — is closing within the next two to four weeks.

Charles Small, the president and CEO of the 138-year-old business since mid-2006, announced the closing on Facebook.

“In the last eight weeks, I have seen our business and lives turned upside down,” Small writes in the post. “I have spent countless hours working with advisers and thinking through every angle I could. I have consulted with our board of directors and accountants. Unfortunately, closure was the decision that we reached.”

Small tells the Scene that COVID-19 factors were a major consideration in the closing of the business, which is home to 20 employees.

The closing comes not quite four year after Dury’s opened at 1027 Murfreesboro Pike after having long operated in SoBro. The company years ago operated from multiple locations in the city, including in Green Hills, on White Bridge Road and on West End Avenue.

In the Facebook post, Small says that no further lab orders will be processed and that he will be posting operating hours for pickups during the next few days. He also recommended that customers consider Roberts Camera as a new local source for camera needs.

“We have been partnering with them the last year on our Buy, Sell, Trade events and I think you will find them to be a great company to work with,” Small writes.
