As many in Middle Tennessee TV land have learned from Scene contributor Ashley Spurgeon's side-splitting recaps, sometimes the ABC drama Nashville is absolutely hilarious. But according to an item on Deadline this morning, there's a new Music City-themed show on the horizon that might end up being intentionally funny.Â
Jack Dwight!
According to the report, musical funnyman Jack Black and legendary trad-country cowpunk (and occasionally brilliant actor) Dwight Yoakam have teamed up to executive-produce a Nashville-set, country-tinged comedy series for Fox. The show, titled Belles & Whistles, is a single-camera family comedy with "musical elements," about a disillusioned dad who packs up and sets out for Nashville to make it as a country star after getting fired from his Silicon Valley tech job.Â
Writer Alex McAulay (Eastbound and Down) and Spencer Berman (of Black's production company Electric Dynamite) are also attached as executive producers. No word yet on whether or not the show will shoot in Nashville, but this all sounds very promising.Â
