"The Woodsman"
Inka Essenhigh: Between Worlds
Where: The Frist
When: Through Oct. 9
One of the reasons the Frist is able to remain such a Nashville institution is its ability to seamlessly straddle multiple art-world arenas at once. Its current lineup is no exception: There’s a blockbuster show (Belíssima!), a historically relevant survey (The Power of Pictures) and now Inka Essenhigh: Between Worlds, a solo exhibit of a midcareer contemporary artist.
Essenhigh is a New York-based painter who has shown in Nashville previously — her ghostly “Brush With Death” was part of the Frist’s Fairy Tales, Monsters and the Genetic Imagination back in 2012. She returns with a show of work that spans a decade and includes paintings and monotypes, and will make fans of Hieronymus Bosch, Wangechi Mutu and Disney’s Fantasia stop in their tracks.
