Best I can tell—by roaming the vaguely definitive ether known as cyberspace—the term “jugalbandhi” means “entwined twins” and refers to a musical duet, which makes perfect sense for this concert: a set of South Indian (Carnatic) classical music by The Carnatica Brothers (4 p.m.), followed by a set of North Indian (Hindustani) classical music by Arijit Mahalanabis and his group (5:30 p.m.), followed by a joint performance (7 p.m.). In addition to singing, the Carnatic music will feature violin and mridangam (a hypnotic double-headed drum), while the Hindustani music will include harmonium (an organ-like keyboard instrument) and tabla (a pair of drums tuned to different pitches), so there should be enough sonic variety to keep things interesting. And if you’ve never been to the lovely and ornate Sri Ganesha Temple, here’s the perfect opportunity.
