The Tennessee State Museum and the Handweavers Guild of Nashville present a day for exploring historical techniques for cloth making and their application in modern artistic creations. Master-teachers Lynne Vogel (spinning) and Geri Forkner (weaving) will be leading the workshops, tying their traditional folk crafts to the kind of multimedia conceptions that make up much of contemporary art. The preservation of traditional skills can be enhanced by this kind of dialog: one that connects the industry of yesteryear to the artistry of today. Events like this allow for an ongoing dialog to continue, where expert craftspeople share the common memory of our traditional past with modern audiences who value our cultural inheritance.
