The Music City Film Critics’ Association announced the nominees for its eighth annual awards Monday, honoring the best in film for the 2025 calendar year.

Horror blockbuster Sinners set a new MCFCA record with 17 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Ryan Coogler, Best Screenplay and four acting nods.

Paul Thomas Anderson's action epic One Battle After Another also landed in the double digits with 13 nominations, while sports comedy/thriller Marty Supreme (nine), gothic sci-fi drama Frakenstein (seven) and historical tragedy Hamnet (six) rounded out the top five.

The organization also announced five nominees for this year’s Jim Ridley Award, honoring late Scene editor-in-chief and film critic Jim Ridley. The nominees were chosen by a panel of MCFCA members who knew and worked with Ridley.

The association includes 40 professional film critics working in or near Nashville, including myself and several other Scene contributors and staffers. The winners will be announced Jan. 12. See the full slate of nominations below.
