One of the city’s great singing stylists, Peterson is drawing growing attention for his brilliant Old-Time Country Revue, which finds him belting out country classics from the ’40s and ’50s in front of varying lineups that include everyone from jazz-grass bassist Missy Raines to pedal steel legends like Robby Turner, Paul Franklin and, before his death, the great John Hughey. But lest we forget, Peterson’s a fearsome bluegrasser too, fronting equally varied—and equally talented—lineups under the “1946” rubric. Tonight, look for banjo man extraordinaire Charlie Cushman, sweet fiddling from Shad Cobb, stout Monroe mandolin from Mike Compton, and the ever-reliable Kent “Superman” Blanton holding down the low end; all have played with Peterson before, and knew his repertoire inside out before picking the first note with him What better way to edge toward the future than by listening to the best from the past?
