Wreckless Eric w/Country Westerns & Michelle Sullivan and the All-Night Boys

He isn’t known as well as the other Stiff Records artists like The Damned, The Pogues or Elvis Costello, but Wreckless Eric had one of the label’s biggest — and possibly its most lasting — hit. “Whole Wide World” sticks out as a stunner of the era. It’s been in films, television and was even recorded by locals Cage the Elephant. But the wild-haired power-pop songsmith has been pumping out his jangle-and-stomp rock ’n’ roll songs since his time in the mid-’70s pub-rock scene. Rejuvenating his career in the 21st century by collaborating with his wife, songwriter Amy Rigby, Wreckless Eric has created a new life for his songs. His latest album, Transience, has all the makings of classic Wreckless material — hints of garage rock, ’60s country and clever lyrics delivered with a lazy snarl. Show up early for the locals — the hyper-catchy roots-pop of Country Westerns and the punky country of Michelle Sullivan and the All-Night Boys. 9 p.m. at The 5 Spot, 1006 Forrest Ave. P.J. KINZER
