Wheeler Walker Jr.

Ever-eloquent-tongued sex-country parody crooner Wheeler Walker Jr. recently tweeted a blunt, blustering missive at music critics: “Stop making your year end ‘best of’ lists you fucking dipshits. My album isn’t out until Friday.” And if lead-off singles like the open-road-ready two-stepper “Save Some Titty Milk for Me” and the tender ballad-for-an-unborn-son “All the Pussy You Will Slay” from the Dave Cobb-produced WWIII are any indication, there won’t be a dry seat in the house when Junior finishes sullying his iconic father’s name at Cannery Ballroom. Only if there was a Wheeler Walker Sr., of course. The alter ego of comedian Ben Hoffman, Wheeler Walker Jr. essentially does to country music what the late (great?) Blowfly did to funk and soul — he takes the piss out of the genre with uproariously raunchy innuendo-filled songs meant to induce orgasms of laughter. But the kind of listeners who don’t pay attention to lyrics might get even more out of the Walker canon, which sets sex tales of redneck life to tasteful trad-country sounds fit for fans of other Cobb-helmed records by the likes of Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson.
