Watch TwinsthenewTrend Videos on YouTube

For so long, the Fine Brothers had the lock on reaction videos online. But in 2020, a pair of twin brothers from Gary, Ind., started picking up a following with their reaction vids. (Even Obama’s a fan!) Siblings Tim and Fred Williams are 22-year-olds who constantly drop videos on their TwinsthenewTrend YouTube channel, which has almost 800,000 subscribers. Their stock-in-trade is reacting to songs their young ears have not heard, and the fun obviously comes from seeing them react to tunes your old ass most likely grew up on — whether it’s Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day” or Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.” But it’s also their open-mindedness that has made them such viral darlings. I mean, do you know any 20-somethings who are willing to check out music that’s not only from unfamiliar artists and genres, but that’s also more than five years old? These boys prove that there are young folks out there who don’t mind listening to something other than Top 40 radio. Start with the Phil Collins video — it went viral over the summer, and for really good reason. Visit youtube.com/c/TwinsthenewTrend for more. CRAIG D. LINDSEY
