If your idea of The Nutcracker is limited to wholesome images of dancing flowers and snowflakes, then perhaps you’ve not yet been introduced to The Slutcracker — a bawdy burlesque parody of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet. Choreographer-director Vanessa White first presented the sassy show in Boston back in 2008, and quickly won over a loyal following — cult filmmaker John Waters is reportedly a big fan. The story follows the sexual awakening and holiday dreams of a grown-up — but rather pent-up — Clara, and features a wide range of talent and dance forms. There are ballerinas, drag artists, belly dancers, hula hoopers, pole dancers, a “Dildo Prince” and even a phallic candy cane. It’s certainly not your granny’s Nutcracker, but it is cool to see such body-positive diversity represented. This year, White’s Ballets Ruses company has put together Slutcracker: The Movie — a film compilation from The Slutcracker’s 2019 stage show. Tickets are $15, and are recommended for the 18-and-up set. Through Dec. 31 via slutcracker.com AMY STUMPFL
