Update: Venue Change — Poppy Patica w/Ziona Riley, Ryan Jennings, Will Gant & Peter Stringer-Hye

Washington, D.C., native Peter Hartmann, who performs and records as Poppy Patica, is the kind of writer and performer any rock scene ought to be glad to have, taking familiar forms and molding them into curious creations that are totally his own with the help of lots of talented friends. “I guess I like to hook people in with a catchy melody,” he told the Washington City Paper in 2017, “but then, before they get too comfortable, push ’em in the pool!” He’ll appear at Betty’s on Thursday with a wealth of good Nashville company. A recent video of Ziona Riley performing her song “Bury This Heirloom” is a slice of stone folk with contemporary social commentary that lands with megaton force. Paperhead and Teddy and the Rough Riders bassman Ryan Jennings will share some songs, as will his Paperhead bandmate Peter Stringer-Hye (who released a great new Traffic-y solo LP called Pan in November). Off-kilter banjo-playing singer-songwriter Will Gant will round out the bill. STEPHEN TRAGESER
