Three Six Mafia may be the Memphis hip-hop crew you know the best, but they’re far from Bluff City’s only rap exponents. Tommy Wright III has maintained his position as one of Memphis’ premiere gangsta rap artists and producers for two decades while rarely unleashing his ultra-cold, ultra-violent flow in public. He’s the opposite of an internet celebrity, with a cult following among cassette collectors and skaters but without a Wikipedia page. You can bet you’ll be in the company of some serious O.G. heads when he makes his Nashville debut in the Blue Room on Friday, one of whom will share the stage: Nashville’s own Greenwade, home after close to 20 years in jail, will also perform. His recent track “The Game Is Dead” comes from a different perspective than the guy who traded verses with Kool Daddy Fresh on “Gameshow” in 1997, but he’s every bit as energized. STEPHEN TRAGESER
