Paying tribute to a late music icon presents a Goldilocks situation: You can’t be a blatant knockoff, you can’t be completely original, and you have to be juuust the right amount of earnest. (Bonus points if you don’t make it all about you, Lady Gaga.) The Nashville Symphony hits all the right notes with its homage to Prince, trotting out doppelgänger Marshall Charloff — who’s been fronting his own Purple Xperience five-piece since 2011 — as well as a full band. The show is an encore of sorts, following a nearly instant sellout performance in November. Charloff & Co. will tackle dearly beloved Prince staples like “Little Red Corvette,” “1999,” “Raspberry Beret” and “Purple Rain,” making for an emotional and sexual evening at the symphony. So this is what it sounds like when a packed Schermerhorn cries. KATY LINDENMUTH
