Stone Jack Jones Album Release Feat. Luke Schneider

Maybe you’ve noticed all the subtleties you get from an overcast sky. That’s my frame of reference for the luminous and at-times eerie work of expander of folk music Stone Jack Jones, who releases his fifth LP Black Snake via local label YK Records on Sept. 13 and celebrates with a show at all-ages venue Drkmttr the next night. Coincidentally, the record includes a song called “#BeautifulDay” that has all the shifting shapes and variegation of the cloudscape before a storm. There are also some surprisingly pretty-sounding tunes, piercing the gray like rays of sunshine, obliquely reminding you to cherish them. Jones recorded the album with producer-engineer Roger Moutenot, known for his work with Yo La Tengo among many others, and included a wide variety of top Nashville musicians including Rodrigo Avendano (Coupler, Sun Seeker), Kyle Hamlett (Lylas), Katie Banyay (Idle Bloom) and Luke Schneider (Margo Price, William Tyler). Pedal steel wizard Schneider, whose music nods to New Age and ambient musicians as much as country legends, will open Saturday’s show. 8 p.m. at Drkmttr, 1111 Dickerson Pike STEPHEN TRAGESER
