Spookyghostboy w/Faith Healer, Cecil Frena, Only & Z

It’s perfectly OK to not know exactly what you’re looking for — sometimes that state of indecision presents an opportunity to find something new that you really love. If that sounds like you on this Friday night, it’s worth your while to check out the five-band bill at Drkmttr. Headliner Spookyghostboy, aka Austin Thomas, makes a wounded but not overly dramatic or cluttered variety of pop; fellow locals Only make an amped-up kind of dream pop, augmented by the addition of superb vocals from Wildfront’s Josephine Moore; while Z, a new project from Mom and Dad’s Zach Prosser, builds on M&D’s most angular tendencies on their new single “Pure Pleasure.” The two touring guests hail from Canada. Give a warm welcome to Faith Healer, whose recent LP Try ;) has all kinds of rock ’n’ pop goodies (a little country-rock here, a little acid-kissed shoegaze there, and some great songs). And dig Cecil Frena, whose forthcoming solo album The Gridlock sounds very different from the fractured electronic pop of his work with Born Gold (née Gobble Gobble, whose early membership included Purity Ring’s Megan James and Corin Roddick), but features intelligent, earnest writing.
