So we all know that July 20 marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing (see our pick on Space Day at the Tennessee State Museum above). But this year also marks the 30th anniversary of the release of For All Mankind, the Oscar-winning space-travel doc that will play at the Belcourt, another selection from its Spirit of ’69 series. Director Al Reinhart spent more than a decade rounding up interviews with NASA astronauts (including Jim Lovell and Michael Collins) to accompany film footage of various Apollo missions that happened between 1969 and 1972 — Reinhart and editor Susan Korda reportedly went through 6 million feet of film. It’s quite the spectacular journey, especially when you add a trippy, ambient score by Brian Eno, which he released as an album, Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks, in 1983. The Belcourt will have family-friendly moon-related activities in the lobby. July 20-21 at the Belcourt, 2102 Belcourt Ave. CRAIG D. LINDSEY
