Well-known bassist and educator Roy Vogt will bring his annual get-together of bass heavyweights back to Douglas Corner Thursday, Friday and Saturday as part of the summer National Association of Music Merchants events. Vogt’s Thunder Row Bass Invitational is aptly named — Vogt is but one of a slew of bottom-end wizards and rhythm-section movers who will perform over the course of three nights. Joining Vogt will be such superb bassists as Nashville’s Dave Pomeroy, a renowned session and live player, along with Cameroon-born ax master Gros Ngolle Pokossi, who has lent his talents to performances by jazz drummer Ronald Shannon Jackson and jazz saxophonist James Carter. After playing for two decades in Europe, Pokossi now lives in Chicago. Also appearing will be Pete Skjold, Jeff Berlin, Blake Branch, Brittany Frompovich and many more. Proceeds from the shows benefit Nashville’s W.O. Smith Community Music School. 7 p.m. June 28-30 at Douglas Corner Cafe, 2106 Eighth Ave. S. EDD HURT
