Rob Galbraith

One of the original Nashville hipsters, producer and singer Rob Galbraith released two classic examples of Southern-fried, jazz-influenced R&B in the ’70s. Galbraith’s 1970 Nashville Dirt is spare and idiosyncratic, while 1976’s Throw Me a Bone registers as a classic piece of yacht rock, with extra greens on the side. Heading up a band that includes master jazz-rock drummer Chester Thompson, Galbraith — an East Tennessee native who has produced Ronnie Milsap for decades — slides into Douglas Corner a couple of times a year and puts on a first-class soul-R&B revue. The band lays down R&B and soul grooves that are topped by Galbraith’s post-Ray Charles keyboard work. The tunes from Nashville Dirt and Throw Me a Bone always sound great, and an R&B-jazz waltz titled “I Guess They’ll Buy Her a Porsche” — a superb Galbraith song that he’s never recorded — gives Thompson a chance to take a solo you’ll be glad you heard. Also joining the auteur will be Thompson’s wife, singer Roz Thompson, along with singer Katelyn McCall. Rounding out the band will be guitarist Court Clement, keyboardists Kyle Lehning and Mike Reid, saxophonist Sam Levine and, on bass, Michael Rinne. 8:30 p.m. at Douglas Corner, 2106 Eighth Ave. S.
