Nashville has a reputation for attracting all kinds of talents, and lately we’ve seen an upsurge in the number of poets and performance artists carving out their niches here. This event, organized by sometime Scene contributor and psych-blues bandleader Ted Drozdowski, aims to find the common threads between a variety of disciplines, as his group The Scissormen improvises along with outstanding poet TJ Jarrett, whose most recent collection Zion won the Crab Orchard Open Competition; poet, playwright and Blackbird Theater Company leader Greg Greene; poet and actor Sally Harvey Anderson; multidisciplinary movement artist Jas Taylor; and painter Mike Windy, performing as Cowboy Concept Y’all. “The word-artists can and will take on all kinds of topics, from social justice to historical poetry to every aspect of living,” says Drozdowski, “and we’ll bond the music to their words in ways that we can’t anticipate until they happen.” The only way to find out just what will happen is to see it for yourself.
